Sissy squat

The sissy squat is a squat where your knees glide far forward while your body leans back in one line. It puts a lot of work on your quads, with help from your abs and calves. It is demanding for the knees, so build it up slowly. Hold a support for balance, start shallow and go only as deep as you can control. It suits you when the Squat feels easy and your knees feel healthy. Stop if you feel pain in your knees.

How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hold a support with one hand.
  2. Rise onto your toes and let your knees glide forward.
  3. Lean your body back, so knees, hips and shoulders form one line.
  4. Lower only as far as you can control, then come back up.
